HOLDEN DEATH VALLEY MARGARITA RAMPAGE
“Mikey asked me to pick up Darrell and LNP from Reno, I was on route from Portland, had been pulled over once and was deep into the 15 hour drive. Turns out, Darrell missed his flight by a whole day, and then somehow missed his replacement flight as well, but at least this time only by an hour or so. He however regained face by renting a convertible mustang. LNP faired better and only missed his flight by 2 hours.
Rendezvoused with LNP in Reno, making the mandatory stop at In-N- Out, then hit the road again, only to be caught in a snowstorm in mid May. A mellow five-hour drive turned into a marathon nine.
We stumbled through the night with a mix of English and French accents, and as dawn crept along the horizon we made it to the hotel in time for a couple hours of sleep …
The trip was spent catching up with old friends, getting to know new ones better and enjoying the surrealism of our landscape. We licked salt from the flats, threw rocks a plenty, and wondered which plants could sustain us if we were lost, ate a healthy amount of hot dogs and an unhealthy amount of margaritas. Zacher annihilated a TV mid desert, Mikey and Laura had the best thrift store props, and there was a constant poker tournament in the RV.
This was the best trip, and I wish every group was as passionate, weird and quirky as this. –sara”
